Preparing for college is an exciting milestone for many students, but navigating the scholarship and financial aid process can feel overwhelming. This presentation will provide students and families with helpful information and resources related to the college application process, financial aid programs, and scholarship opportunities available to students with visual impairment.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of available supports and practical guidance to help make the transition to college more accessible and financially manageable.
Speaker
Fernanda N. Garcia-Piña – Director of Research Operations, Lighthouse Guild
Fernanda is a seasoned healthcare management and administration leader with a strong passion for advancing low vision research. In her role, she provides administrative oversight and logistical and financial management across multiple research projects. She manages the department’s financial portfolio, including grant funding allocation, supervises research staff, and ensures regulatory compliance. Ms. Garcia-Piña also oversees the Lighthouse Guild Scholarship Program, bringing her extensive operational and financial expertise to its management and execution. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications Studies from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University’s Chapman Graduate School of Business. She is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and a former member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
