Specialized care to help you avoid vision loss and other complications

Manage your diabetes and improve your health

A common yet serious complication of diabetes is vision loss or blindness. At Lighthouse Guild’s Maxine and John M. Bendheim Center for Diabetes Care, we help you stay healthy and preserve your eyesight.

Our specialists create programs to manage your diabetes. Our services include:

  • Nutritional counseling
  • Support groups
  • Endocrinology

Accredited by the American Diabetes Association, our self-management education program helps you manage your diabetes through individual and group sessions, where you can:

  • Learn practical techniques for taking medications
  • Learn strategies for monitoring your blood sugar
  • Make healthy lifestyle changes

Comprehensive care

Lighthouse Guild is proud to be certified by the American Diabetes Association and the National Committee for quality assurance. Our trained physicians and counselors help manage your symptoms and enhance your overall wellness.

Endocrinology

Our board-certified endocrinologist is part of a full-service health care team that can diagnose your diabetes, help you manage the disease, and reduce your risk of complications such as vision loss.

Diet and weight

When you have diabetes, you need to make smart food choices. But you don’t have to give up all your favorite foods to maintain a balanced diet. Our certified nutritionists teach:

  • The value of a healthy diet and different nutrients
  • How to put together nutritious meal plans that work for you
  • How to make smart choices when eating at restaurants or outside your home
  • Counselor leading a group therapy session.

    Strength in numbers

Meet people who are going through similar challenges in a Diabetes Support Group.

  • Consulting Patient at Modern Office.

    Individual counseling

We offer private, one-on-one counseling that is specifically tailored to your physical and emotional needs.

  • Doctor Discussing Test Results With Senior Female.

    Keep your doctor

Keep your personal physician while receiving additional, specialized attention designed to manage your diabetes.

I realized I could have the same things and that life was not over at age 31. Lighthouse Guild let me know I’m going to be okay.

Podiatry

Put your best foot forward

Vision loss makes it difficult to take care of your feet or observe signs of trouble. For people with diabetes, you’re at risk for both visual impairment and foot issues — making it double the difficulty. With your needs in mind, our podiatrists help you:

  • Learn how to care for your feet
  • Use special techniques to check your feet, even with vision loss
  • Avoid injuries
