About the Session
Supporting a child with visual impairment takes a collaborative team — this zoom session explores practical ways to foster your child’s learning, build independence, and strengthen your partnership with educators.
Join us to hear directly from a TVI about what parents should expect from their child’s TVI, how the TVI supports students in the classroom, and how parents can become active partners in their child’s education. We will also explore practical ways parents can support their child’s learning and independence both at school and at home, while encouraging communication and collaboration among families, TVIs, classroom teachers, and other members of the educational team.
Speakers
Lauren Schneider – Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) with a Perkins CVI Range Endorsement.
With 12 years of experience, Lauren Schneider provides vision services at Pathways Children’s School and Manhattan Star Academy. Lauren has expertise in teaching students with visual impairments, including those with Cortical Visual Impairment, low vision, and blindness, ranging in age from 3-21. She works collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents to design individualized education plans and has established partnerships with vision organizations to ensure students have access to necessary resources and accommodations. In 2024, she presented a tele-talk with the Lighthouse on Returning to Routine with Purpose.
