Building leadership for the next generation.

The Visionary Committee is a group of early to mid-career professionals committed to supporting Lighthouse Guild’s mission, leadership, and efforts.

Mission

To help visually impaired people achieve their goals by engaging early career professionals through fundraising, volunteering, awareness building, and sustainable recruitment practices.

Vision

To engage the next generation of leaders in Lighthouse Guild’s efforts to help people who are visually impaired to attain their goals.

Membership

The Visionary Committee is comprised of at least seven, but no more than 36, early to mid-career professionals interested in increasing their philanthropic engagement in the mission of Lighthouse Guild. Most members live and/or work in New York City. For a current list of members, go to the Board of Directors page.

The committee constitutes a diverse cross-section of members from the private, public, nonprofit and medical sectors.

Members commit to a two-year term with the ability to renew based on mutual agreement.

Leadership

The Visionary Committee is led by an Executive Board serving two-year terms. Elections will be held during the first meeting of the relevant calendar year. The inaugural Executive Board will be comprised of founding members of the Visionary Committee.

Committees

The Visionary Committee contains standing committees, including:

  • Executive Committee has broad oversight of the Visionary Committee and the other committees. The President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer will serve on the Executive Committee.
  • Social Committee plans and organizes all social events for the Visionary Committee, including one annual fundraising event.
  • Volunteer Committee works to provide member and non-members with volunteer opportunities through Lighthouse Guild.
  • Advocacy and Awareness Committee will raise awareness of social justice and equity issues that affect people with vision impairment and takes actions that advance the vision that no person is limited by their visual capacity.
  • Recruitment Committee plans and enacts all initiatives aimed at identifying potential new members for the Visionary Committee. The committee will have an annual goal to fill any empty Visionary Committee seats under the 36-person maximum. If all 36 seats on the board are full, the Recruitment Committee will focus on member retention initiatives.
