Hello, my name is James Fala from the Tech Pals program at Lighthouse Guild, and today I’ll be going over a channel called “Person.” This channel allows you to recognize both known and unknown people. Let’s do a demo.
How to Use the Person Channel
So, I will be opening the Seeing AI app now. Once the app is open, if I were using VoiceOver, I would either scroll up or down to go through the channels. But since I’m not, I’ll just look for the icon that looks like a person. Once I do that, I will point the camera towards whoever I’m trying to recognize because it recognizes people, both known and unknown.
You can save people in the Person channel. To do this, you need to take a picture of someone three times. I had someone saved on the channel. For example, when I face the phone toward Fio, it will say his name because I already have him saved in the app. But when I face the phone toward my coworker, Ela, it will just say that she’s there and how far away she is.
For example:
“One face, near center, five feet away.”
When you actually take a picture, the app lets you know the person’s facial expression, an estimate of their age, and their hair color.
Let me show you:
“One face, near center. 32-year-old man with brown hair and a beard, looking neutral.”
And with Ela:
“One face, near top edge. 21-year-old woman with brown hair, looking neutral.”
Since Fio is already saved in the Person channel, if I wanted to add my coworker, Ela, I would click the plus button, which is located at the top right. To recognize a new person, you need to take three pictures of them. Afterward, an option will appear for you to give them a name.
For example, Fio’s name is already saved, and it’s showing me a different screen.
When you face the camera toward the person, it will say:
“One face, near top edge, five feet away.”
Additional Tips
When wanting to save someone in the Person channel, you need good lighting and to be close up to the person.
