Lighthouse Guild conducts research studies to better assist in the development of methodologies, techniques, and technology that advances the treatment and management of vision loss and helps those with vision loss live fuller lives unimpaired by their vision loss.

Our Research Institute also evaluates the effectiveness, usability, and acceptance of assistive technology. We aim to gather evidence-based data that will inform better technology selection for people with vision loss.

Current studies include:

  • The use of AI by individuals with vision loss
  • Comparative efficacy of hand-held versus wearable technology
  • Indoor navigation solutions
  • Calibration of head-worn devices

Support for our research studies on the effectiveness of assistive technology devices  is provided by the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).

Are you interested in participating? Please contact Lighthouse Guild’s Director of Research Operations, Fernanda Garcia-Piña, at 212-769-7833  or submit a request online.

Are you interested in participating in a new study?

You can help further research into advancing assistive technology, methodololgies, and techniques that help manage vision loss. Join now!
