Taking on Nonprofit Leadership in a Time of Crisis: A Vanguard Dialogue with Calvin Roberts and Paul Misiti

Taking on the top leadership of an organization is daunting at any time, let alone a month into this new chaotic era.

But that’s what Calvin Roberts, MD, and Paul Misiti did in April, stepping into the roles of President/CEO and Chief of Staff, respectively, at Lighthouse Guild, the international vision-loss organization.

They both left senior leadership roles at Bausch + Lomb to run, and establish a new mission for, a major but recently downsized nonprofit, just when that kind of work was getting harder than ever. What were they thinking? And what do they think now?

This conversation, with Vanguard Group founder and principal Ken Banta, is part of an ongoing series of Vanguard Leadership Dialogues with top leaders about “Leading Through Uncertainty.” New sessions are held approximately every two weeks for participating audiences of senior executives; to learn more or register for an upcoming session, click here.
