Lighthouse Guild kicked off its 17th season in Palm Beach with a festive Holiday Tea on December 8, 2023, hosted by Jackie Weld at her house in Palm Beach.

Marc Rosen, Founder of the Palm Beach Friends of Lighthouse Guild, thanked Weld for hosting the tea, and acknowledged Beth DeWoody and Firooz Zahedi, and Maestro Gerard Schwarz from the Palm Beach Symphony, who will be honored at the Annual Visionary Dinner on February 26, 2024 at Club Colette.

“This season we are Saluting the Arts and we are excited to honor Beth and Firooz, who have been longtime partners in our work and prominent figures in the visual arts community, and to honor Maestro Schwarz, who so magnificently leads the Palm Beach Symphony,” Rosen said.

Rosen introduced Dr. Calvin Roberts, Lighthouse Guild’s President and CEO and a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, who gratefully acknowledged the host, honorees and guests, and thanked them for their support.

Roberts showcased a sculpture that was an emblematic example of how technology and art intersect through a program developed by sculptor Bonnie Collura, a Professor at Penn State’s School of Visual Arts.  Collura’s “Together, Tacit” initiative reimagines the experience creating art by using a haptic glove that enables blind or visually impaired artists to sculpt ‘virtual clay’ with a sighted partner while wearing a virtual reality headset, resulting in a collaborative artistic experience.

The Lighthouse Guild will also host a complimentary Breakfast on January 24, 2024 at Café Boulud at The Brazilian Court that will highlight the latest innovations in vision technology.  On January 25, 2024, art connoisseurs, James Borynack, last year’s honoree, and Adolfo Zaralegui, will host a cocktail party at Findlay Galleries for the honorees and to kickoff the Annual Visionary Dinner in February.
