Podcast Continues Exploring Big Ideas on How Technology Is Making Life Better for People with Vision Loss
NEW YORK (November 4, 2021) — Can humans use the latest sonar technology for obstacle detection the way bats and other nocturnal creatures do? There are many exciting advances in sonar sensors that now make this possible for people who are blind. The latest episode of “On Tech and Vision with Dr. Cal Roberts” explores how sonar and a somewhat similar technology called LiDAR are being used for obstacle detection. Dr. Cal Roberts talks with Dr. Matina Kalcounis-Rueppell from the College of Natural and Applied Science at the University of Alberta, Ben Eynon and Diego Roel from Strap Technologies, Marco Trujillo of SUNU, and Sam Seavey of The Blind Life YouTube Channel.
“Batman Technology: Using Sonar for Human Navigation” is the second episode of season 2 of Lighthouse Guild’s podcast series exploring big ideas on how technology is helping people with vision loss. “On Tech & Vision with Dr. Cal Roberts,” is available online at Lighthouseguild.org and for downloading on Apple Music, Spotify, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio Podcasts and Tunein.com.
