Learn how our dedicated team of eye care professionals, doctors, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers can help meet your healthcare needs.

A healthy life, from head to toe

Vision impairment affects more than your eyes. As you lose sight, you may find that your entire health routine must change. At Lighthouse Guild, we take a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare for people who are visually impaired. Our health center provides a full range of services for people with vision loss including:

  • Optometry and eye exams
  • Behavioral health
  • Occupational therapy
  • Diabetes care, endocrinology, and podiatry
  • Primary care
  • Adult Day Health Care (ADHC)

Optometry and eye exams

We specialize in low vision, which cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Our medical team can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle, optimize your vision, and reduce your risk of vision loss. The level of personalized care we offer is hard to find elsewhere.

At our optic shop in New York, we make eyeglasses on site, including specialty lenses for people with all types of vision problems. You can also learn about magnifiers and other optical devices that help you see better. It’s one stop for all of your vision care needs.

Visual impairment makes it hard to take care of your feet or observe signs of trouble. Diabetes can also cause foot problems. Our podiatrists play an important role in vision loss rehabilitation and in the care of people with diabetes. Learn how to care for your feet, use special techniques to check your feet—even with visual impairment—and avoid injuries.

With our healthcare services, you can achieve good health, function, and independence

  • Health

Healthy lifestyle choices, such as diet control and exercise, can prevent diabetes (or keep it under control) and prevent further vision loss.

  • Function

Therapists, optometrists, and other specialists collaborate so you can navigate through vision loss at work and in the world.

  • Independence

Your life isn’t defined by your vision loss or blindness. Better health is the first step to reclaiming your life and living independently.

If I met a person who was newly visually impaired I would tell them to use the services at the Lighthouse Guild.”
