During this discussion, we will explore the critical role that social connection plays in the lives of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Social bonds are essential for emotional well-being, personal growth, and resilience. However, maintaining these connections can be challenging due to physical, social, and technological barriers. This session will highlight the significance of fostering relationships, and how such connections can enhance mental health, independence, and overall quality of life.
About the Speaker
Maggie Walters is the Director of Outreach & Support Programs at Lighthouse Guild, where she leads efforts to strengthen the organization’s programs and referral networks. Through strategic partnerships, targeted collaborations, and community engagement across the New York Metropolitan area, she works to expand Lighthouse Guild’s reach and impact. Additionally, Maggie oversees a National Tele-Support Program that offers tele-support groups, virtual programs, and resources for individuals of all ages managing vision loss across the country. She holds a Master’s in Public Health from Montclair State University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.
