About the Session

Summer is the perfect time to keep young readers engaged — discover the resources and strategies that make independent reading accessible for children who are blind or visually impaired.

This session highlights the importance of maintaining strong literacy habits over the summer for children who are blind or visually impaired, with a focus on accessible and engaging reading options. Attendees will gain insight into available resources such as braille collections, audiobooks, and large print materials, as well as strategies for helping families support independent reading at home.

Speakers

Amelia Grant – Children’s Librarian, Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library

Amelia supports young readers who are blind or visually impaired in discovering accessible and engaging literature. She works closely with families, educators, and the community to promote inclusive literacy through braille, audiobooks, and other adaptive formats.
