About the Session
A new school year brings new opportunities — this session gives families the tools and strategies to start the year with confidence.
Join us for an informative session designed for families of children with visual impairments to discuss practical strategies for preparing for the new school year. Topics will include establishing routines, promoting independence, organizing school materials, communicating effectively with teachers and support staff, and ensuring appropriate accommodations and services are in place. Participants will leave with helpful tips and resources to support a smooth, confident, and successful start to the school year.
Speakers
Gale Delaney – Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
Gale has dedicated her career to teaching individuals who are blind or have low vision the skills they need to travel safely and independently. With extensive training and hands-on experience across a wide range of environments, she brings valuable insight into effective O&M techniques, problem-solving strategies, and real-world applications that support confident navigation.
Nancy Doyle – NY State Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Nancy has been working with blind and visually impaired children at the Lighthouse Guild for over 15 years. She currently provides vision services for the Lighthouse Guild at the Adapt Community Network Manhattan Preschool Program.
