About the Session

Supporting your child’s independence starts with understanding how they learn to navigate the world.

As children grow, their orientation and mobility (O&M) skills evolve alongside their cognitive, physical, and social development. This session will explore how O&M skills develop over time and what that progression may look like from early childhood through the school years. Families will come away with practical, everyday strategies to use at home and in the community to strengthen independence and reinforce safe travel skills.

Speaker

Gale Delaney – Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)

Gale has dedicated her career to teaching individuals who are blind or have low vision the skills they need to travel safely and independently. With extensive training and hands-on experience in a wide range of environments, she brings valuable insight into effective O&M techniques, problem-solving strategies, and real-world applications that support confident navigation.
