Richard A. Marfuggi, MD, FACS, DMH
Dr. Richard Marfuggi is not only a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, but also the first medical doctor to holda doctorate in Medical Humanities (DMH) — the interdisciplinary application of the Humanities, the SocialSciences, and the Arts to medical education and health care delivery. He has a strong interest in medicalethics, medical history, and medical education. To that end, Dr. Marfuggi serves as Adjunct Professor atboth the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies and the Theological School of Drew University, Member and Past-President of the Medical History Society of New Jersey, Biomedical Ethics Advisor and Lecturer at Kent Place School, and Academic Director of the National Student Leadership Conference on Medicineand Health Care. He is a member of the Committee on Biomedical Ethics for the New Jersey StateMedical Society, consultant to the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct and member of the American Medical Association Foundation Commission on LGBTQ+ Health.
Since joining the Board, Dr. Marfuggi has worked to raise awareness of the needs of people who are visually impaired and stresses the need to incorporate digital technology into their overall care plan. Currently in his third decade as Artistic Supernumerary at the Metropolitan Opera, he strives to practice the most scientific of the humanities and the most humane of the sciences.
